Awards

Lehman's Inc. Mechanical Contractors has been the recipient of 13 Awards of Excellence and Merit from the Indiana Associated Builders and Contractors for nine consecutive years. We're not boasting about the awards as much as taking pride in the projects they represent. Each of these awards represents outstanding performance by the Lehman organization in the HVAC field.

Most of these awards are from the ABC, or Associated Builders and Contractors, which is a national organization for merit shop contractors. These awards are given out annually to contractors for specific projects they have done during the year. Projects are judged in specific categories (ours would all have been in the mechanical contractor category) and within certain project-size categories. Most of ours would be in the larger-size category.

There are two awards types, which are the Award of Honor and the Award of Excellence. Excellence is the higher of the two. A panel of industry experts, including architects and engineers as well as educators from architectural colleges and engineering schools, judges the projects.

Awards of Excellence

  • 1999 Delco-Remy America - Liberty Park
  • 2000 Dunn Hall @ Anderson University. This was in the institutional category and was for the installation of a complete heating and cooling system in an existing dorm. The project was completed during the summer and consisted of installing Hydronic piping throughout the existing building. Hundreds of holes had to be core drilled through the existing concrete floors to allow for all new hot and chilled water piping to be installed. Every dorm room received a fan coil unit. The old boilers were removed and new high efficiency boilers were installed. A new chiller was installed for cooling and all of the piping and controls were completed on time for students to return to their dorm rooms at the start of school.
  • 2001 Southside Middle School. This project was a major renovation of the building mechanical systems and included demolition of the existing heating systems and a complete new heating and cooling system for the building. The project lasted over a year and included thousands of feet of piping. New boilers were installed along with a chiller plant and a complete building automation system was installed to control the building. This project was made more difficult because school was in session during most of the job.
  • 2002 Anderson University: Kardatzke Wellness Center. This project was a spectacular job because of the expanse of the building. It included everything from typical office suites to a large indoor track and field area. Huge round spiral duct over 60" in diameter had to be suspended over 40 feet above the floor of the building to provide heating and cooling for the track and field area. Several hundred tons of chilled water-cooling was installed along with high efficiency boilers to serve the heating and cooling needs. At the same time we installed new heating and dehumidification systems for the AU Natatorium.
  • 2002 Fredericks Building Addition
  • 2003 Forrest Hills Elementary School renovation. This was a renovation of an existing building that was done during summer break. It included new boilers, chiller and air handling equipment plus ductwork. The project had to be completed prior to the start of school and was done on time.
  • 2003 Central Indiana Orthopedics
  • 2005 Eastside Elementary School. This was a large institutional project (mechanical) that includes boilers, chillers, air handlers, ductwork, piping and a building automation system.
  • 2006 South Madison Community Schools - Pendleton Elementary
  • 2007 The Second Flagship Project at the new Flagship Education Center Building. This was a joint venture with Purdue University and Anderson University for regional education opportunities. This building connected with the Flagship Enterprise building and included VAV systems and an expanded Honeywell building automation system.

Awards of Honor

  • 2002 Liberty Christian School. This was a renovation of an existing building that was not originally a school. It included installation of several fan coils and packaged units plus a VAV system with hot water reheat. This was a Design/Build project that was negotiated with the owner.
  • 2005 The Flagship Enterprise Building. This was a three-story office building that is an incubator for new business in Indiana. It included VAV systems and a Honeywell building automation system.
  • 2007 Anderson Community Schools - Highland High School. This was an addition to the existing building plus renovations to existing systems. It included new boilers and chillers plus air handlers, ductwork and piping.

Awards for other than construction projects

  • 2003 The ABC Image Award, which is a special award given to contractors who meet the highest standards for safety, quality and leadership in the construction industry.
  • 2005 ABC "STEP" Award for Safety Training and Evaluation Process. This award was in recognition of our safety program and commitment to a safe workplace for our employees.
  • 2005 State of Indiana "Half Century Award" for being in business for 75 years.
